Cholinergic Vs anti-cholinergic

Cholinergic neurotransmitter:
  •  Acetylcholine (Ach ) binds to the specific cholinergic receptors to show it's action .
  •  Muscurinc receptors (M1, M2, M3 , M4 , M5) this receptors located at different organs and tissues.
  • Nicotinc receptors ( Nn , Nm) .
  • Cholinomimetics drugs are mainly classified as direct acting and indirect acting cholinomimetics.
  • Direct acting produced it's effect by direct binding to the cholinergic receptors and mimetic the Ach action .
  • Indirect acting ;   produce it's effect by inhibiting the enzyme Actylcholinesrease (AchE) ,that responsible for Ach degradation.
 Cholinergic Agonist :
      Examples for some agents ;
  1. Acetylcholine
  2. Neostigmine
  3. Physostigmine
  4. carbacol

Cholinergic antagonist :
Examples for some agents ;
  1. Atropine
  2. Hyoscin - scoplamine
  3. oxybutynin
  4. Atropine like effect drugs .
Cholinergic agonist common side effects :
  • Salivation
  • bradycardia / decreases heart rate
  • Decreases the blood pressure / cause Hypotension .
  • Bronchospasm / might be fatal with asthma people .
  • Urination .
  • Ulcer.
Common side effects of Atropine :
  • Dry muoth.
  • tachycardia /  increases the heart rate.
  • Increases in blood pleasure / Hypertension .
  • Urinary retention .

Uses of cholinergic agonists :
  •  its used in the treatment of Mystina gravies .
  • Used as post operation urinary retention .
  • Used in the treatment of atropine overdose .
  • Used in the treatment of curare poisoning / over does .
Uses of Atropine / like drugs :
  • Asthma treatment
  • GIT upset .
  • Parkinson disease .
  • Ulcer treatment .
